About Us |
Horse and Barrel was founded by Ryan Van Cleave, a local businessman and horse lover, in 2007. He realised how beautiful our county was and immediately understood that the best way to share this was on horseback. With Calaveras County growing to rival the Napa Valley it soon became clear how much people wanted to combine the wonderful local wines and an adventure on horseback - and so Horse and Barrel was born! |
Over the years a group of dedicated people have joined Ryan in his passion to create memorable family friendly adventures. With 2 things in common: a love of horses and of wanting to share the wonderful area we live in - the group works tirelessly to make sure that every trip and every event is a wonderful and memorable experience for all of our guests. |
And we can't forget our most faithful of friends - our horses. An amazing bunch that take their jobs very seriously, ensuring that all our riders feel safe and confident. |

Hollywood: named for his flowing blond mane and long eyelashes, he is a favourite with us all - a real ladies man! |
Romeo and Dunn: "Been there and done that" is the motto of these 2 guys. Our most experienced horses, they don't put a foot wrong and are true gentlemen! |
Clyde: The gentle Giant! If you are the 6 foot jock then this is your guy - strong and powerful, but laid back too! |
Jeremy: One of our head guides. Knowledgable and charming - he is also a volunteer firefighter - nice to know we are in safe hands! |

Curt is one of our most important members of the crew - he is our caretaker and so makes sure the pens and the horses are clean and well cared for - not an easy task at all! |
